Shades & Shapes is owned and operated by Rosario J De Meo, master colorist.
Hair color is an art. Just as a painter creates hues and shades with a palette, a hair color artist can work that same magic creating complex color lit with highlights and shine while maintaining the integrity of the hair.
Rosario DeMeo, owner of Shades and Shapes Salon, located in Patriots Plaza in Hackettstown, is one those exceptional hair color artists. He has helped create custom color formulations for TV and magazine commercials for top celebrities, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Beyonce Knowles and Andie McDowell.
Rosario states, it’s not just about the color, it’s about the integrity of the hair.
This attention to every aspect of the hair’s look and health has made him one the most sought after master colorists in the industry. He’s been featured in Elle magazine, and represented L’Oreal Paris at the famous Vanity Fair suite at the Golden Globe Awards.
Rosario was one the key players in the development of hair color for Matrix and L’Oreal Paris, with his formulas being used even today in some of the best salons in the world.
L’Oreal considers him in the top 10% of colorists in the country.
He brings that same expertise and attention to detail to his clients at Shades & Shapes, his new salon.
“I develop a unique color formula for each and every client I work on, taking into consideration everything from eye color, to skin tone, to the shape of the face for the cut,” he explained.
Rosario is not just a master colorist; he’s also a classic hair cutter, preferring the timeless styles that he perfected in New York salons.
He is proud of his roots, beginning his career at the famous Beth Minardi Salon in Manhattan.

Rosario has renovated his salon to match his new direction. He has handpicked every item to reflect his new vision, including state-of-the-art chemical sinks. Of course, being a colorist, Rosario chose a lighting system he researched and tested to show the clients their true hair color!
